This 12 months it has been the more speculative investments that have delivered the ideal returns, a trend that continued in excess of the summer time when money that buy Latin American shares had been amongst the prime performers.

Five of the ten greatest-executing unit trusts in August, of the 2,000 or so accessible to British savers, had been Latin American equity money, according to Hargreaves Lansdown, the investment shop. These funds invest primarily in Brazil, but also shop for shares in Mexico, Peru and Chile.

These five money benefited as Brazil’s stock market place index, the Bovespa, soared by 10pc to reach its highest level in 18 months.

Brazilian shares are booming ahead of elections taking spot following month. Electoral polls indicate that the opposition candidate Marina Silva will exchange the present president, Dilma Rousseff, who has been criticised for holding back the economic climate. Traders have been getting shares and pushing up charges in the hope that this plays out.

But it was not a Latin American fund that was the greatest performer. That prize went alternatively to Junior Oils, which invests in oil exploration and production organizations. The fund made a return of 10pc in August as smaller oil businesses recover following proving unpopular in 2013.
